“You can’t control cancer with your check-ins, but you can help find it earlier," says Kathy Stringer, member of Buford Fit Body Boot Camp and an advocate for breast cancer screenings. Which is why she and her daughters are checking in with Sweat Angels by Causely to support Bright Pink.
Kathy's Cancer Journey
Kathy went in for her yearly breast exam last October and was greeted with the dreaded news of, "we found something." She had a nearly undetectable lump in her breast. The bad news was that Kathy did have breast cancer, but the good news was that the mammogram caught it early.
"The mammogram saved my life," Kathy said. "The lump was so small, you couldn't feel it externally. If I had waited until I felt a lump, it would have been too late. That's why screenings are so important."
Over the next year, Kathy went through two lumpectomies and radiation treatment. She fought hard and, thankfully, beat the cancer!
Once she had gained her strength back, she was looking for ways to stay strong, be healthy, and live her life. After being encouraged by her daughters, she joined Buford Fit Body Boot Camp. "My girls loved Fit Body and were always checking in on Facebook for the Sweat Angels program. I loved that they were doing good while working out and I wanted to be a part of it with them," said Kathy.
Why Kathy Checks In
Now, Kathy and her daughters work out together, check in together, and do good together. This month they are all proud to support Bright Pink and encourage others to check in. "Risk assessments can save lives. They saved mine and I can't stress enough the importance of screenings for women," said Kathy. "Check in and help women catch cancer early!"
